| There is A LOT of questioning about the law and towing horses in MI right now. For telephone questions call: 1-800-682-4682 On line information can be found here: http://www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,1607,7-151-9625_56949---,00.html You want to click on Truck Driver's Guide Book. It clearly explains the difference between commercial and personal vehicles. http://www.truckingsafety.org/pdf/guidebook/Guidebook.13.pdf IF YOU HAVE FARM PLATES then you need to read the Farmer's Guidebook (and HERE is where folks CAN get into towing problems!!). http://www.michfb.com/files/safety/transportation_guidebook/Farmers%20Transportation%20Guidebook%2 0-%202010.pdf The rules are all spelled out there, the difference between "for making money' versus "for fun" towing. Any further questions just call 1-800-682-4682 for the answers, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday - Friday. Please share this with anyone and everyone. |
| July 25, 2011 Hello Fellow MFTAers. I wanted to bring to your attention the availability of the Equine Trailways Subcommittee report that can now be found on the DNR website. The ETS is a legal entity created by Public Acts 45 and 46, sometimes referred to as the “right to ride” act. There are 46 recommendations for the improvement of horse trails and trail facilities in the state….you can learn more from the ETS letter (attached) and the DNR press release of the report (also attached). There are 60 days for public comments. Please direct your comments to DNR-RTS@michigan.gov. | Good news; Many of you may have heard the news today that the Michigan Supreme Court issued their decision July 30, with a minority opinion, that a DNR managed trail is not a highway and the state is not liable for injuries in the Duffy Case. This is a significant win for the DNR in the management of the state trails system. The link to the decision is: http://www.courts.michigan.gov/supremecourt/Clerk/10-11-Term-Opinions/ 140937.pdf |
